The Pressure Point Brighton

introduction

The Pressure Point has been around for a few years now and is a 2 floor venue including a pub and gig venue upstairs. The pub is a student dive, there’s a few tables outside by a busy intersection for smoking, and the upstairs venue tends to host (often) diabolical local bands along with the occasional good touring band.

what’s it like inside?

The gig venue is a medium sized room, all blue, that resembles an abandoned squat. The windows are all boarded up, the floor is sticky and the place is incredibly hot. On the ceiling there are 3 inflatable stars as if this place doubles up as a 2001 super club at the weekends. It doesn’t.

can you see the bands?

Whilst there is a stage, its not high enough to see clearly if you are behind anybody taller than you. The back of the stage is higher than the front though, so you might just spot the drummer. Best bet – get down the front, early.

can you sit down?

There are some seating areas to the left of the stage, about space for 8 people. You won’t see anything if you sit there though.

can you get a drink?

Its easy to get served here, you can generally go downstairs and take your drinks up, or order from the bar to the right of the stage. Drinks are expensive though, upstairs only serves cans (I think) and the beer tastes decidedly odd.

what are the toilets like?

The toilets are disgusting. Happily there are toilets by the gig venue upstairs, and downstairs.

how do you smoke?

There’s no special area, you just go outside where some benches have been provided. Make sure you have your stamp or wristband though, the door staff here are like the gestapo. Even the cloakroom guys are intimidating.

I wouldn’t actively go seeking bands to see here, but if you feel you must check out their listings page on their incredibly blue website.
