Busking in Brighton

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

More fun and vibrant than a Hare Krishna march, this is The Half Sisters - self appointed “busking queens of Brighton”. Squishing folk and pop together into a cuddly, dancing monster of a band, they’ve drawn big crowds and a lot of attention playing shows around town…

Great Escape Festival Brighton 2009 Preview

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Selected acts to watch at The Great Escape Brighton 2009. A weak line up, made worse by some truly horrific additions. It was hard to pick the best, because there simply aren’t that many good bands playing.

900 Spaces Review

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

A review of 900 Spaces at The Prince Albert, 19th February 2009. “…All the core components of a good party band are here, from the synths and angelic voice of lead singer Emma Lou, to the style of bassist Joe-Leigh Branton who dances like Franz Ferdinand and the considered pickings of guitarist Adam House. Glissando Review

Monday, February 16th, 2009

The song, Floods, drew to a close with the whole band… singing the lines together, a haunting crescendo that rang around the half-empty Freebutt”

Glissando Interview

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Interview with Glissando, before their show at the Brighton Freebutt, 2nd February 2009… “Their music could be compared to Efterklang, Bat For Lashes and Godspeed You Black Emperor; it demands patience, but rewards you with an experience that’s warm, intimate and soothing to the spirit… sitting in the cosy, dim-lit upstairs bar of the Freebutt, they talked about the tour, their album, and Richard’s label, Gizeh”

Hjaltalín live review

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Review of Hjaltalín at the Freebutt Brighton on Jan 21st 2009…”The icing on the cake is ‘The Boy Next Door”. I nearly cried during this point, its graceful and full of exquisite adorn. “You’ll be fine,” sings Rebekka. I have to be, because there’s a celebration on the horizon tonight in the name of living.”
